Custom-Built

We build custom displays to meet our customer’s demands and can offer full custom displays. This includes an electrical interface, optical properties, pixel pitch, and environmental robustness. Custom displays utilize the newest technologies available in the market. Spectrum Displays designs and develops direct and edge light LED backlight systems with our custom LCD TFT arrays. Advancement in LED technology allows for a more suitable form of lighting in most rugged environments for many reasons.

LCDs for Transportation, Digital Signage and Kiosk

Spectrum Displays designs, develops and manufactures custom displays to fit our client’s specific application. These displays have been in full production in high volumes, up to several thousand pieces per year, used in severe applications such as railway transportation, medical and aerospace. Spectrum Displays understands every application is unique, the resizing technology allows for small-volume highly customized AMLCDs to fit into the space between the roof line and the door of a train car as an example.

LCD Displays for Aerospace Applications

Custom sized LCDs are available in industry-standard sizes intended for aerospace and simulation applications. LCD displays are designed for sunlight readability and include features to maximize the lifetime of the display assembly in rugged applications. These custom aerospace LCD modules include options for NVIS to meet the criteria outlined in MIL-STD-3009.

Heater / EMI

Spectrum Displays offers custom transparent ITO coatings used as EMI/RFI suppression. These filter elements are designed with excellent transmission in the visible spectrum while minimizing internal reflections for use with TFT LCD assemblies. The viewing surfaces of the EMI / Heater assemblies can be enhanced with broadband anti-reflective coatings with very low levels of diffuse to maximize the contrast of the display assembly when used in high ambient lighting conditions.

The cover glass can be coated with precisely controlled indexed matched layers of Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) to achieve very low resistive values per square inch while maintaining high transmission minimizing internal reflections when bonding in the final assembly.

All filter elements include features such as silver frit bus bars and can be customized for unique termination in the final assembly. All of the coatings and bus bars are processed to be robust and resistant to chemicals, solvents, and cleaning fluids typically found in aircraft applications.

  • Surface resistance: 3 ~ 300 ?/sq.
  • Glass size: Up to 24″ diagonal
  • Silver frit & Black frit firing process
  • Surface requirement: 80/50, 60/40, or 40/20
  • Transmission: >93% (High ?), >90% (Low ?)

All of the display modules include enhancement options like custom AR over glass elements. These cover lens assemblies are specially designed to maximize display contrast and minimize reflective loss when used in high ambient lighting. These AR coatings are a broadband low reflection index-matched process typically found in aerospace applications. The AR coatings can be applied to a wide variety of glass substrates including soda-lime, white float, and strengthened glass elements. These cover lens assemblies are optically bonded in a clean room and meet the demands of aerospace applications.

Optical Bonding

Optical Bonding increases TFT AMLCD view ability in high ambient lighting or direct sunlight applications. With index-matched AR, AG cover lens assemblies, or touch screens the optical bonding process improves contrast (Improved black and white levels) by reducing the reflective loss. Spectrum Displays offers a single point of supply for the complete display solution optically bonding of the filter to TFT modules is performed in a clean room environment using proprietary processes that have been developed specifically for displays used in rugged environments. We supply both high-volume low cost and small-production types of bonding for aerospace and defense applications. The optical bonding techniques have been rigorously tested in harsh military environments to insure the display optical stack will perform in a rugged application.
